Commitment

2.18.24 Willisburg Bulletin

How committed to Christ are you? Are you fully trusting Him with your life? Would you serve God if someone threatened your life? Do you serve God wholeheartedly, in every way possible for you? Do you look for ways to grow in commitment to the Lord? Do you only serve Him when it is only convenient? What about when times are rough, and everything seems to be falling apart? How do you serve God when everything is going how you planned? Are you so committed that you’ll do whatever it takes to get to Heaven? How much work do you put in to share the gospel? How much time do you spend with Him? How dedicated to Him are you?

God’s End of the Deal

To understand the degree of what my commitment ought to be towards God, maybe I ought to ask, how committed is God to us? Do you realize all His works are so evident, you may miss them? Think about this… Your soul is so valuable, Satan tirelessly pursues it, and the King laid His own life for it. God is so committed to you, meaning your soul, that He was willing to give His only Son to save you. God’s commitment to you is seen in your blessings, health, family, support, church, love, answered prayers, work abilities, nature, and even life itself. He has showed you commitment endlessly!

Our End of the Deal

God has already put in almost all of His end of the deal. He has one promise left to fulfill and what makes you think it won’t when every record and example of is His faithfulness to His promises. Yet, sometimes it’s as if you‘re spitting on His sacrifice like it wasn’t enough and you could care less about how your attitude should be toward God. So, the question now is what do I have to do to fulfill my end of the deal? The first step is making the vow through baptism. This step is so important to the Lord that it’s the only way into Heaven, it’s as serious as life and death. The Lord says, “If a man vows a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth” (Num 30:2). He means that. The next step is a life long practice. As described in Matthew, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (22: 37). This encompasses your every action, every word, every motive, and every thought.

Lifelong Commitment

The Bible has given you “everything that pertain to life and godliness” (2 Pet 1:3), making it your guidebook. Inside this book are some requirements of you: assembling with the saints (Heb 10:25) this means every chance there is – when the doors are open, participating in the acts of worship sincerely. sharing the gospel with the world (Matt 28:19) this means making time, chasing opportunities and seizing them. adding to your faith (2 Pet 1:5-9) this means faithfully studying, reading, praying, and growing in the Lord. using your talents (Matt 25:14-30) this means working in the Lord’s Kingdom and even doing duties you think you can’t. facing temptations with God’s confidence to overcome (1 Cor 10:13) this means praying for strength from God, knowing you can push past it (Phil 4:13). being a doer of God’s commands (Jm 1:22) this means digging into the Word to find out what your commitment ought to further be towards God. How does your commitment look in these aspects? How can you want to spend eternity with God, but you can’t spend an hour with Him a day, or even every week?
