We all know the verses in Joshua talking about being strong and courageous. There are times where that seems harder to do, especially in this world we live in. Our culture is in dire need for godly Christians with passion and fire for God’s truth. There are countless examples in scriptures of times. Think about Esther, Mary, Joshua, Paul, and so many more. They had there own way of exhibiting it, but it was still required. Just as it is for us. We may exhibit strength and courage through parenthood or some may show it more in their marriage. AND there’s always a need to work on it.
1. God-Defined Person
Christians do not let the culture and world define their worth, identity, and value as a person. They look to God for the truth and for answers about their design and purpose. Christians understand that they are made in God’s image and they’re constantly striving to be defined by God’s word. Psalm 119:1-8
2. Prays like it matters
Christians who are strong for Christ did so by realizing how absolutely weak they are without God. Instead of getting caught up in the world, they take their battle to the Lord in prayer. They seek the face of the Creator and believe that prayer changes people. Phil 4:6: Col 4:2; Rom 8:26
3. Searches for the truth
Rather than hoping to the internet or friends for decisions in life, the Christians will search for God’s truth. They look to the Word for answers and the less confused life becomes because they are seeking Biblical truth. Prov 2:3-5; Ps 25:5
4. Looks for Lies
The Christian that is strong is on the constant llookout for lies/false teachings. A careful watch on the flesh because the devil and the world are seeking them out. They don’t blindly engage in culture, entertainment, or influencers before examination. 1 Pet 5:8; James 1:14-15
5. Says no to evil
Strong Christians understand the dangers of flirting with temptation, and they do all they can to avoid it. Our world is evil and seductive and so they prepare ahead of time, by not relying on their strength, but God’s through a daily building relationship. Boldly saying no to pressures, compromises, lies, and even half-truths. Isa 5:20; Gal 5:17
6. Says yes to righteousness
The Christian’s heart seeks holiness and strives to live according to God’s Word. Understanding that being holy requires separation from culture, and not being popular or politically correct. Rather they pray and ask God for courage and strength to stand against the world. 1 Pet 1:16; 2:9; 2 Tim 2:22
7. Does hard things
The strong and courageous Christian is not afraid to do hard things for the sake of Christ. Whether it be sharing the gospel, leading a study, mentoring someone younger, standing for the truth, or teaching their family. They life is markked by their hard work and efforts to live a Christ centered life. They live each day with eternity in mind and spend time daily in the Word while also living each day to build God’s kingdom. 1 John 2:15-17; Gal 5:20
